Just to break the chain of really fun photos of Oath traveling the world,  I thought you might like an update on what book-related work has been going on.  I think I mentioned when the revisions went in.   I’ve also done a couple of interviews (one phone, one email) and answered a UK copy-editor’s questions about that edition of the Gird/Luap omnibus.   The map for Kings of the North is still to do.

Very early this morning (one-ish, with some leftover until two-ish)  I finally got the main revision tangle sorted out.    Slept a few hours and went back over everything this morning before sending it off to Editor.  Naturally found new things to smooth out, including one word change Editor wanted that I’d forgotten about.

On occasion I’ve written about writing in cooking terms–stirring the pot, things bubbling up from below, flavorings that must not over-dominate the final meal, something cooking so long the story goes mushy, etc.    But there’s another relationships between cooking and writing that not many people have mentioned.

Sleep helped.   I had other things to do yesterday afternoon but slept about four hours and about seven more overnight.   Looking at my attempt to start on the last revision puzzle yesterday…I should’ve waited until after the sleep.

However, it’s a puzzle that some of you may find interesting, and I hope to keep it spoiler-free.

It was a very busy day.  So will this be, but at least the suspense before launch is now down a notch.

Reminder: this is a spoiler-free zone for awhile.   When I do open a topic for discussion of Oath of Fealty, it will be signposted as having spoilers, so those of you who don’t like them will find it easy to avoid.  (No spoilers in my entry post, for instance.)   But for at least the first week or two,  we’re not discussing the book (though unbounded adulation is always appropriate, says the Authorial Ego.  The Authorial Ego won’t shut up.)

…and tomorrow the book’s out in the stores.  I hope you in the US are as excited as I am, and that if you pre-ordered online, your copies arrive on your doorstep (or whatever you use) on time tomorrow.    (Those of you in Europe who already have the UK version…try not to hand out too many spoilers.  At least until the end of the week, OK?)

…and I am Not Ready.  Anxious, of course.   Eager, of course.  But if “ready” is supposed to include organized, all supplies in place, wardrobe chosen and prepared, etc, etc, etc….no.  Not Ready.   And thanks to the misery that’s Daylight Savings Time (every year I scream silently at the heavens “It does not save any !**! daylight!!!”  And here in Texas we pray all summer for night to come and give us small relief from the day’s heat and glare)  it is already 9:30 in the morning when it should be 8:30.
