White Rabbit Moments

Feeling like the White Rabbit,  I dash in here and apologize for not being able to answer all your wonderful comments.    I thought by this week I’d be caught up (on them, at least) but I’m not, and as they accumulate I probably won’t be, because there is Other Stuff to be done as well.  For instance, Book III.

Book III is in full sulk, much as Book II was last year when I took several weeks off from it.   I opened files on it last night (the afternoon spent working with M- on an essay he had to write and had no idea how to tackle) and it turned its back, saying over its (not yet very large) shoulder “Who are you?   Are you that person who abandoned me in a big empty space of unfilled manuscript pages?   And if so, why should I care about you?”

It’s going to take time, time spent coaxing III back out of its snit and into a cooperative mood…something that’s only done by the kind of writing that’s like bicycling up a long, long steep slope (which I haven’t done but have seen on TV)…solid commitment to it, in other words, and that’s going to cut into the time I can spend here and elsewhere online.

So, many thanks to all of you for your supportive comments–I wish I had the time to answer every one individually, but the longer I lay off of Book III, the more difficult it will be, and (eyeing the deadline to get it done in time for it to come out a year after Kings and the other things that will need doing between now and then) I should not wait even one more day.   I’ll let you know how we’re doing, but that’s about all for awhile, until III has relaxed and is moving well again.
