…and tomorrow the book’s out in the stores.  I hope you in the US are as excited as I am, and that if you pre-ordered online, your copies arrive on your doorstep (or whatever you use) on time tomorrow.    (Those of you in Europe who already have the UK version…try not to hand out too many spoilers.  At least until the end of the week, OK?)

Synopsis

I’m supposed to write a synopsis of Kings of the North, and since the book is essentially done (barring the revisions I’m working on) you’d think that would be easy.   Or some of you would.  Some of you may suffer from a-synopsisism, a condition in which writing synopsis is only slightly more difficult and painful than pulling off your toenails one by one.

Countdown: 15 days

As this is March 1, in 15 days Oath of Fealty will hit the streets in the US.    If any of you are near Austin, Texas,  I’m doing a book signing on Tuesday, March 16, at Book People (6th and Lamar) at 7 pm.   Earlier (4 – 5 pm CST) I’ll be doing an online chat at Suvudu with John Hemry (writing as Jack Campbell, author of the Lost Fleet series) and editor Betsy Mitchell, who will try to keep John and me from taking off into the wild blue.

Just In Time…

…for ConDFW (I leave in the morning, won’t be back until Monday night, and may not post until Tuesday),  Editor sent me an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy, also known as a review copy) of the book.   (Let me tell you, hearing that people had bought one on e-Bay, when I didn’t have one, was a strain on my equanimity!)   However, I now have something for show-and-tell, even though it doesn’t have any of the artwork. Book Two Title

Posted: under Marketing.
Tags: ,  February 6th, 2010

We have achieved Title for the second book:  Kings of the North was a clear winner with Editor and Marketing, I heard Friday.   Now to  put the correct title on the header line of all the chapters now titled “Kieri II”.  I’m not at all sure that KOTN has the same appeal as LOTR.

Sheepfarmer’s Daughter download free

Now in the Free Library at Suvudu.comSheepfarmer’s Daughter, the first of the Paks books…accessible through this Del Rey site as well as through the Baen site.   I think I mentioned it here before, but this is due to the gracious cooperation of both Baen Books and Del Rey Books.  If  you have friends you’ve been trying to convince to try out this story world, here’s an easy way for them to jump in the pond.  (But…nobody has to read the whole Deed of Paksenarrion before diving into the new book.)

Six weeks to go…yes, I’m getting twitchy.    I wish it would come out in time for ConDFW in February, but we’ll just have to suffer a few weeks more.

Sign of nearing release date:  Del Rey have put the first chapter of Oath of Fealty up at their website.   Enjoy!

I will be posting another largeish chunk on the Paksworld site when my web-guru and I can get this organized (but both of us are somewhat tied up right now…it may be a day or so.)

Podcast of possible interest

Though it’s not about Paksworld,  Graphic Audio is doing the audio books of the Vatta’s War series, and they’ve put up an interview with me as a podcast on their site.  It’s big–138 Mb, roughly–so don’t try this unless you have broadband.

On the Graphic Audio site, click on RSS Feeds (Podcasts), then on Radio Show, which presents you with a list of podcasts, each of which has a “play now” link.  My interview is the Jan. 2010 podcast.    If you’d rather have a direct link, one of my friends found this. I haven’t indulged yet (working on essay on tight deadline) and I don’t remember what I said…

Suvudu interview

I forgot to post this separately (DUH!) as soon as I got home, but on Wednesday last week I did a video interview with Betsy Mitchell, my editor.   It involved a teeny-tiny camera on a tripod…about pack-of-playing-cards size on a tripod that could’ve held a Big Fat Important Camera.   In the process of setting up for it, I learned about the Book Cabinet (no, I’m not telling you.  Not now, anyway.)

The video went up Sunday evening, but I was flat out from the end of trip and didn’t find it until today…should’ve posted the link before now, though.

[Edited to fix link]
