The Juggling Act

Writers with what I call Engineer Mind have perfectly organized desks and files.   I’ve met a few of those.   I’m not one.  I have what I call Writer Mind (in lieu of calling it Chaos Mind.)    All my organizational skill goes into the writing…none is left over for anything else.

This becomes even more obvious when I’m faced with competing demands on organizational ability.

Kings Snippet

Posted: under Kings of the North, snippet.

You folks are owed some snippets, and you have my apologies for falling short in the snippet department this year.    Those who haven’t read Oath of Fealty are welcome to peek past the “more” warning, but you will find spoilers.   (Those completely unfamiliar with the Paksworld universe will benefit from a quick side trip to the Paksworld website, which has maps and names and other useful stuff.)

Today’s snippet is from Kings of the North, partway through Chapter One.

ARCs! Contest!

Posted: under ARC, Contents, Kings of the North, the writing life.

I now have ARCs for Kings of the North in my hot little hands (the weather turned warm and muggy–hands are definitely hot.)    There will be a contest in which someone will win an ARC.   However, due to multiple instances of LifeStuff, I don’t have the contest idea worked out yet, so the contest isn’t today or maybe even this week.   It will happen, however, because I now have a prize some of you will probably want.

Celebratory Snippet

Posted: under Kings of the North, snippet.
Tags: , ,  July 19th, 2010

In honor of Amazon having it listed for pre-order, here’s another Kings of the North snippet.  This one introduces some new characters, all young.   Location:  Verrakai House in Vérella.  Dorrin has  squires, who have just arrived to begin their service with her.     They are leaving for the country the next day.    The squires are Beclan Mahieran (the king’s cousin and younger brother of Rothlin), Gwennothlin Marrakai ( younger sister of Juris Marrakai), and Daryan Serrostin (younger brother of Rolyan Serrostin)…all dukes’ offspring, in other words.

Plotting the Map, Mapping the Plot

Someday, maybe even tomorrow, there’ll be another picture of the map progress.   It won’t look like much, but that’s because today I erased about a quarter of it.  Luckily for me (and you, in the long run) what needed erasing wasn’t inked yet.  Now it is.

Another Snippet from Kings

Another snippet from Kings of the North today.   This may be one I posted in an earlier draft last year, but as someone said, there are people new to the place who probably don’t want to hunt through the archives for everything I said back then.    As before, there may be mild spoilers incorporated, so if you’re spoiler-averse,  don’t read beyond the break.

Snippet from Kings

With thanks for your patience in the past week as I worked on the copy edits,  here’s a snippet (again, if you don’t want any spoilers at all, don’t read beyond the “read more” link.)    This is maybe 1/5 to 1/4 of the way through the book.
