On the Trail to Revision

This morning I planned to start work on Book Two as soon as I w0ke, and in fact had planned an ambitious attack on it while dealing with a click beetle in the bedroom last night.   (Click beetles, which show up in the house in late summer, are small, harmless, but noisy little beetles that are more active at night and markedly interfere with my sleep.  Last night, for instance, one crawled under my pillow and started jumping and clicking right under my ear.)

Anyway, when I turned on the computer this morning, I had email from the Orbit UK, where they’re working on the omnibus Deed of Paksenarrion and proofreaders had found anomalies.  Could I please check them out?

Of course I could, and the corrections went back to the UK several hours ago,  after which I could finally get back to Book Two, holding in mind what I thought of last night, after the encounter with the articles in Writer’s Digest and a week away to clear my head (GoogleFAIL was a frustrating experience but it did get my mind clear enough of Book Two to see the book more clearly when I picked it up again.

So the rest of the morning has been spent once more digging into the early chapters and I think this time they’re all sparkly and shiny and ready for Editor.    (But then I thought that about some parts of them last time that I just re-wrote. )  However, Book is purring and stropping my ankles, so that’s always a good sign.

Some paragraphs went away, using the rules of one of the articles, rules I knew but hadn’t followed.  (DUH.)  Other paragraphs appeared.    One of the latter allowed me to put in a very useful nugget that makes something later more believable.    (It’s equivalent to putting the dagger on the wall along with spears, javelins, and other pointy things so it can be used in the murder later but it’s not a dagger.)

Progress has been made.  Ahhhhhh….
