The Lost is Found

There was a glitch with the copy edits…which I haven’t talked about much if at all.   They didn’t come, and didn’t come, and finally I was told that they weren’t able to contact the copy editor.   I tried to be a Good Little Writer and just keep truckin’ on the revisions, but as time passed, I worried more and more.  (So, of course, did my editor.)

The worry began to interfere with my ability to concentrate on the book (no, I do not possess superhuman concentration) and I began to spend more online time far away in another corner of the internet.   Nature listservs, email, the new SFWA website’s beta test…anything…

The good news is that today the lost was found, and Editor assures me that the delay will not affect the release date (one of the things I was worried about, because I’d been told July 10 was the hard deadline for my getting the copy edits back to Production.)

After hearing that good news, I was almost immediately able to settle down,  ignore emails and listservs and get back to work.  Several hours of useful revision-work followed,  and a major “sludgy” area suddenly cleared–I rewrote the bad section easily and quickly, deleted the stuff that didn’t belong, and suddenly the whole section recovered movement and life.

So maybe tomorrow I can zip along and get several more chunks done before the copy edits land on my doorstep.

If you want more details of the bizarre things my imagination came up with to explaint the delay, they’re over on my LiveJournal.
