The Good News & The Good News

Editor has accepted the manuscript of INTO THE FIRE (after the second rewrite) and it’s now in production.  Once the copy edits have come and gone, I’m off the contractual hook, so to speak, with the time to arrange for the medical and dental procedures I need.   Whew!   Because an eye with a cataract in it does not get better on its own, nor does a dental situation.

DragonCon was fun but challenging, as the throat injury was still causing discomfort and some loss of voice strength, and the knee injury didn’t allow the kind of fast, steady walking that going from hotel to hotel makes much easier.  OTOH, I made it, so there.

Renovation on the house next door that we bought to rent has gone well, and it’s now time for the flooring crew to put in the new floors.  Then installation of appliances, final plumber visits and electrical visits, and it’ll be about ready to go.  In the meantime I need to have a talk with our lawyer about “being a landlord of residential property.”  The basics; I’ve never done this before.

Glad to see you back and that the manuscript got accepted.

It is always good to find time for your health (and with the teeth, the sooner you take care of them, the less worries you have).
I wish you much fun with the lawyer, time well spent. I had to do it myself where I live, as it has different requirements than simply living on your property… There are some interesting provisions in the tax code which made it very well worth my time.

Dentistry on a par with eye surgery – ouch!

Hope your second cataract op goes better than your first – please could you think of my mother, whose first one was a painful disaster, but who is having the second one done privately on Thursday.

Of course I will send prayers and best wishes to your mother for her next cataract operation.

Elizabeth has just posted on Universes that she’s very busy so won’t be coming here for a while:

“Posted on October 5, 2017 by Elizabeth

“Copy edits arrived this morning. The work space is set up now, with dictionary and Chicago Manual of Style at hand, and several sharp pencils. This is the *next to last* step for me (checking page proofs is the last) and one that’s very important. Even so, if you find a typo in the final version…consider chaos theory and don’t have a cow. I will do my best. Editor did her best. Copy editor did their best. And the final proof readers (including but not limited to me) did their best too.

“Meanwhile, I will be in the kitchen, working on the copy edits, as quickly as possible. Alas, not writing new blog posts. Or stories. Or anything but copy edit checking.

“There was a DoS attack on the servers holding my stuff, so the sites were down for awhile yesterday but are back up. Although this site thinks it’s new and I haven’t posted here before. Odd. It’ll learn. The other blogs may be the same but I don’t have time to check them all today. One per day is the most I can give them.”

If this post appears October 6th (UK time) then that’ll be something survived the cyber attack.

Thank you for the update Richard and Elizabeth. No obvious damage or delay from the DoS attack.
