So It Goes

Right…I’m back over here briefly.   The new new book is now over 60,000 words, but there’s an interruption right now because page proofs arrived today and need to be worked on promptly.  And I have a Vatta short story to make jell for an anthology with a closer deadline than the book.  As often with short stories, it doesn’t want to jell.  It wants to either grow to a novel or shrink to an anecdote.  Neither is acceptable.

Other LifeStuff is shoving in and demanding its due.  I’m slowly getting stronger, but the weather is SO HOT that outdoor exercise is still not really possible.  Today I walked and did some pruning for about 25 minutes, at which point the sweat was running down my face and back and I needed to get inside out of the hot humid non-air.  (It felt like breathing through a thick wet sponge.)

I Will be 78 tomorrow, and here in the RG Valley, it has been so hot all summer long that there are still days when I don’t leave the house except to walk to the mailbox, fill the bird feeder, and pour some water into the birdbath so the sparrows and doves and what few cardinals are still here have something to drink.
But there are a few places that I have to go, and thank goodness, my 13-yo car still runs well, and the AC still works. A cold front has to make it down to Texas before too many more weeks.
Maybe an ice pack on your head will help your Vatta story jell…;-)

    Glad to read from you,

was getting worried not seeing anything new on the blog for about a month.

Ah and on a side note, Amazon.de has changed the release date for Cold Welcome. From November 2016 postponed to April 2017…

Yay anyway, your writing is the reason I particularly cherish the new moon (yes, pun totatlly, shamelessly intended! :))

Yes. Sorry, I thought I’d said that. Publisher wanted SF on this contract.

I really enjoy your books thank you very much. Have you ever thought about telling Stammels story, from when he was a recruit.

Thank you–glad you enjoy the books. I’ve prodded the Stammel in my head several times, but he’s not forthcoming. Cracolnya, on the other hand, has given me a nice wodge of backstory to play with–will probably be published as a novella. Stammel is one of those strong characters who is content to play a supporting role (he refused an offer of further training toward becoming a captain, for instance: he liked being a sergeant. He considered that his “place”.) So I doubt Stammel will ask me to write his story.
