Another Possible Outage

Webhost has warned us that things will be nonfunctional on this Friday,  March 22, starting at 10 pm Central Time in the US, and should be back to normal by 6 am Saturday.   No specifics yet on what will be down, which may mean short rolling outages, or everything.     Safer to bet on “everything” and prepare for it.

I suggest games in the extras’ break room (want to make up some interesting and appropriate games this week?)  and serious philosophical and theological and economic discussions in the stars’ private lounge, topics such as “If blue is Gird’s color, and red is Falk’s color, are Girdish more devout because more of them wear blue than Falkians wear red?” or “If making pickles represents an opportunity cost related to the shortage of cucumbers for cucumber sandwiches,  should pickles or cucumbers cost more?” or “If Writer decides to off me in the final volume, do I still get paid through the end of the month?”   Or anything else you can come up with.

Farrier’s coming at 8 am and he’s never late; must go feed horses now.

Well, funny you should mention extra’s breakroom games…

The Verrakai and thieve’s kiddies got together and thought it would be a riot to play: “Hunt the Cudgel”. Yep they hid the real one. We have looked everywhere. How hard could it be to find a wooden stick. If anyone sees it please return it. No one wants to sneak down to the stars’ private lounge and confess to the Marshall General.

I have something weird to share. We found out that a dear friend of ours in real life is very similar to Kieri. I’m not saying more, but pray for peace with every fiber, right now.

And my husband, contrary to the doctors, has good vital signs and may have been misdiagnosed.

If construction architecture were as fragile as the internet’s architecture, the first woodpecker to come along would collapse a skyscraper.

Elizabeth, I am praying for peace, and a better diagnosis.

Jenn, I very much fear that the kiddies have hidden the cudgel in Book 5, and it will not emerge until after the Marshall General finds out.

Perhaps the Webspinner is tangling the website? We hope not.

    Jenn,
might the thieves’ children have brought along some of their street-entertainer gear? If so, look amidst their musical instruments for an unpaired cymbal that sounds wooden when tapped. But does the Verrakai child who has just discovered transformation magery know how to undo it?

The missing cudgel could be masquerading as a bat, bringing baseball to Paksworld. But I think that the more adult extras are chasing the players outside. That is NOT an indoor game!

I’m worried about what would happen if the Girdish and Falkians went on campaign together. All their stuff might come out of the wash purple.

Yes! Thank You GinnyW! The militia were out playing some sort of hybrid cricket/baseball game. I will send a Marshall (one of those hulking scary ones) over to check it out.

    Richard,
I haven’t seen any street entertainment gear yet. There is nary a wandering minstrel to be found in the breakroom. I do think the children could benefit from playing dress up.
Does anyone know any no-longer-in-use extras’ breakrooms that we can raid?

BTW, Lady Marrakai and Cook Farin have joined forces for the evener celebrations. The spread is magnificent.

Also the mercenaries are starting to place “red shirt” bets. There has been a great deal of strange speculation. 🙂

    Jenn,
The dress up clothes were in the trunk (with a map on the lid) that the Verrakai children found in the attic. There were some elegantly embroidered short jackets, and some split skirts, and pushed to the bottom a cedar box with a wooden doll and a whole range of doll clothes – now delightfully out of date.

I hope Lady Marrakai and Cook Farin don’t get too comfortable together. Verrakai needs its cook!

The Stars are having a contest in the private lounge to determine whether “Falk’s Oath in Gold” or “Torre’s Ride” has more verses – and in which versions.

Vik’s minstrel father has come to visit the extra’s breakroom. He has been playing some back street ballads from Verella, causing some consternation among Selfer’s cohort (who did NOT appreciate the songs about Dorrin) and the thieves guild (who did not miss the implications of the horned ox that turned into a stuffed cow).

We opened one of those imposing cupboards today to discover that it was filled with old sheets. While the children were out playing dress up, the King’s Squires and the Rangers started making tent forts. One of the thieves ran over to the breakroom for Remnant Population and um… er… uh… “borrowed” some paints and beads and whatnot. The elves were delighted to have an arts and crafts day and are thinking of visiting Ofelia more often. The whole breakroom was transformed. You should have seen the Verrakai and thief urchins faces when they came back in. It was great!

    Jenn,
I hope some paints and beads were left for the children, after they got a good nap in the tent forts (as opposed to hiding in the cupboards).
