Elvenhome

Editor has asked, quite reasonably, for more information about elvenhomes.   I vaguely remember writing a post about it,  one of the background posts.  But did I actually hit the PUBLISH button?    Do any of you remember?    Here are some questions (if you feel like answering them) that will give me a handle on how much readers grasp of the elvenhome thing…(in case you haven’t seen the post about it.)

1) Do you think an elvenhome is a particular place, or kind of nebulous about the place thing?

2) Do you think an elvenhome is made by a certain density of elves?

3) Do you think it is made by one very powerful elf?

4) Do you think elven power makes the elvenhome, or the elvenhome makes elven power?

5) What three things would you most like to know about an elvenhome?

You can’t have music without time. Timelessness, yes. Lack of time, no.

@Maureen How do you measure time without decay? If @Kevin Steverson is correct, an atomic clock wouldn’t work in an elvenhome.

There also was the story about speeding up growth so the harp would be ready for the coronation that introduced the improper growth. So they definitely experience time.

Well, we were measuring time long before we knew anything about decay. And if you get really into theoretical physics (I never have, but I’m fascinated by the occasional brief nodding acquaintance that passes me by) time isn’t necessarily linear and isn’t necessarily a constant. It speeds up and slows down (relativity, anyone? there’s a great joke along those lines, but I digress).

Which makes you wonder just how far ahead of us the elves really are, since they obviously are familiar with this concept! (At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.)

Another aspect of elvenhomes: there are hints (mainly in Elizabeth’s blog about the Severance) that they are iynisin-proof “panic rooms”. If elves have a racial ability to shift into another dimension (shifting their surroundings too, including any humans present), then iynisin would share it, so there must be something more going on.
