Done (at least for now)

So INTO THE FIRE reached its appointed end yesterday–today has been filled with other chores–and now I’m going to comb the burs out of its mane, curry the mud-clumps off its back and belly where it rolled and wallowed, and present it to Editor with (I hope) nothing much for her to do but work her magic with the clippers to make it still prettier.

I got a full-length nap this afternoon,  after an interesting morning that involved going to pick up the other car from where it had been towed and worked on, then going by one of the shopping centers in Georgetown to get some stuff at Target, then drifting off thinking about what the book might need in the way of revision and taking a wrong turn that led me back to this town by as roundabout a method as you could find, given the terrain and available roads.   Got back into our town just in time to see husband coming out of the car wash with the car we’d retrieved (a venerable minivan), a coincidence it would’ve been hard to coordinate without much use of clocks and cellphones…and both of us had forgotten to take our cellphones along.    He’d gone to the big supermarket in Georgetown.    If I’d taken any other route…we could not have ended up in tandem driving from the car wash to home.

The place that came and towed the car from here used to be in Georgetown, easy to find on a convenient road, but they had moved, so we didn’t find it on the first try…the road it’s on is a short old county road, narrow and badly paved, and the repair place is what the road dead-ends into.   It belongs in a movie in which Bad Things Happen at the end of the narrow little country road…it now looks like a cross between a junkyard, a derelict farm, and the hideout of people you never want to be around after dark and maybe not by day.   Neither of us was comfortable there.   We will be looking for another towing company/car repair place.

Editor sent me a rough of the cover for INTO THE FIRE (can’t share it) so the business side is still moving along.   COLD WELCOME will be a Science Fiction Book Club selection (yay!)    I look forward to getting back to the next Paksworld short fiction collection–I had intended to get it done last year, but the physical problems intervened.   Without a next book on deadline to write, that won’t be a problem even with the various medical interventions that may show up.

I do hope you post your own cover for Into the Fire – I will be using Calibre to put your cover on Cold Welcome.

Next book Lukewarm – halfway between Fire and Cold.

Expect some snow showers up here in NH.

    This reader’s priorities:

    (1) Keep Elizabeth Moon healthy and happy.
    (2) Be grateful for any new Elizabeth Moon novels.
    (3) Make certain that Ms. Moon understands this reader, at least, would love to read more PaksWorld novels. Subject to #1 and #2.

Congratulations on finishing “Into the Fire.” I look forward to it, and “Cold Welcome.”

Yay, just yay. What with everything else being so yucky your site being down just made it worse; I don’t really know why. It’s nice to get even a smidge of good news. Stay well and best wishes…

I am soooo happy to hear that there will be more from the Paks series. I can almost quote the books now. I enjoy them more than any others I have read in a long time. You are so very talented at bringing the characters to life and making them “believable”. Thank you, Mrs. Moon, for your stories. 🙂

I hope the Cracolnya story you shared in installments on this blog makes it into the new short story collection, and the Knitters Guild, and the … 🙂

I know someone who handcrafts special boxes for the Rare Book Collection at Harvard … they have to fit the particular volume. Also know folks who do bindings and “book arts”. Would a special box just for you work? Probably not … but my omnibus with the black horse on it has fallen into pieces so it is rubber banded rather than boxed.

Giving me ideas for creative ways to “package” some really special volumes … perhaps something knit, like the knit boxes Ikea used to sell.

I am very happy to hear more about Paksworld too! I’m hoping it explains the age discrepancies, and the king’s murderous rampage from the last book 🙁

I just finished Cold Welcome. I love the terraforming subplot. Thanks! I know it was a lot of work, but I really like the colonial history angle.

First things first, i.e. your health.

After that, I confess enjoying both your Science Fiction and your Fantasy works, so I shall enjoy everything you read, health permitting.

Must admit tho: would love to read more about Arvid, I always have liked him, ever since the Paks Trilogy, but him being a dad made me even more fond of him.
