It’s not here yet, because my web designer is over in London having Christmas with her family (her son married an Australian living in London–they got married in Denmark and are now living in London.) And she’s retiring in March (this is Not Fair: she’s younger than I am and I’m not retiring yet!!) But there will be a new website and blog specifically for the SF side of my writing. You are the first outside the business to know (my Editor thought this was a great idea, as some of my SF fans are adamant about not sticking a toe into the Fantasy area, lest they be sucked into the swamp) but never fear–if you’d rather hang out here, I plan to mirror some of the content there over here (possibly not some of the straight science links I’m planning to include–your opinion on that is welcome.) And this area will not go away. There will be more short fiction coming out if things go as planned, and perhaps more long stuff later.
That blog will be called “Universes” and, like this one, embedded in its site. In this case, that site will be encapsulated in my main site, thanks to the ingenuity and cooperation of the site host and my web designer. The Vatta books will be one “universe.”
We expect to have it up early in January–parts are already done, like the design which coordinates with my main site but is sufficiently different (in my opinion.) It has to be done by March, of course. I have some other stuff to photograph and write before it can be shown to the world. When it goes live I’ll announce it here. Please stop by for the opening celebration. You just might find out what a Lassaferan snailfish is, or the real story behind the Vatta dynasty and its arrival on Slotter Key.

Will there be an RSS feed for the new blog?
Are the science articles the only things not being mirrored? It would be less than ideal if there are other things that would be missed by subscribing only here, and a number of duplicates if subscribed to both.
FWIW, I’d advise getting your new web designer to grok the current site before March as well – maybe even handle the deployment. It’s far easier to do while the person who built it is still around to ask. Apologies if this was already obvious to you.

Your fans who won’t touch your Fantasy works are missing some mighty fine writing. The language and writing are more than worth the price of admission.

Oh, cool! A site similar in concept to this but devoted to the SF writing sounds yummy.
And speaking of which, prompted by your upcoming gig as Secret Guest at GaFilk, I’ve been re-reading these books. I actually started with the “Serrano Legacy” sequence, and am now about midway through _Rules of Engagement_. I am cackling over the Texas in-jokes sprinkled through this book, since I grew up at Baytown, over on the Houston Ship Channel.
Not to drop any spoilers for them as has NOT read these books, but I am awaiting with distinct glee the upcoming meetup of Adm. Vida Serrano and Marta Saenz with Prof. Waltraude Meyerson.

Oh, that’s right; the Aunt’s Coven hasn’t met the Professor yet! I wonder if she’s an aunt, too? I love the idea of the new website, but glad this one will still be here. And a belated Merry Christmas to you all-between church duties and frantic present-making I haven’t had time for anything internet.

I have to defend the right of any reader to prefer one kind of book over another. While I read both SF and fantasy, I have been in the same position where a writer’s SF (or fantasy–it’s varied) is spot on for my taste, and their fantasy (or SF) leaves me cold. Can’t explain it, regret it, but there it is: I have writers whose work in one genre I like a lot, and whose work in the other I can’t read past the first chapter without…well…quitting on it. I wish it weren’t that way, but it is. So I can sympathize with my own one-genre-only readers (even while wishing that they loved every word of everything I ever published.)
And no, I’m not going to tell you who or which or confirm any guesses.

Know what you mean, although i also agree with Kathleen and Jonathan. I’m over in Canada at the moment, visiting my son and his family and escaping some of the Australian summer. Disappointed we didn’t get a white Christmas, but enjoying our visit, and looking forward to the new Vatta book.
