So…when did I forget about active verbs, huh?  Not completely forget but forget enough to find myself in a thicket of “was carried, was done, was this and was that.”   Oh, and pluperfect constructions where they weren’t needed.    Also temporal glitches.   It helps to keep things in order, except when you intend to have them scrambled, right?  Right.  FIRST they did this, then because that happened they did this other thing, the results of which caused yet another action.

This doesn’t mean I’m down to the fine-combing, really, it’s just that some things stick out and I deal with them then, even if it’s not strictly by my protocol.

Totally OT, but I see reports of wild fires in central TX while watching the Weather Channel. I hope none of those are threatening your place.

Fire danger is very high (actually higher where I live than where the largest fire is now) but at the moment there are no fires near us. Unseasonably high temperatures, extremely dry air, gusty winds, no rain for months, vegetation is generally dry, but the spring rain produced more of it than usual.

Yesterday I got “smoked” by the smoke from the Bastrop County fires and it laid me low yesterday evening (I had gone into the city for choir practice, but by the time I got to Austin was wheezing and coughing, so didn’t make it.

We just have to hope a fire doesn’t get started near us. Would sure like everyone to be very, very careful–not only obey the region-wide burn ban, but be careful with cigarettes, shredders (one past fire started when someone with a brush-hog hit a rock with flint in it…flint and steel and away she went…) anything that can spark in any way.

Meanwhile some important stuff came out of yesterday’s smoke-created need to find a smoke-free place to rest…chatted with friend about revision difficulties and solved some. He keeps insisting I should put an ekranoplan in a book, and that breaks whatever lock my brain’s gotten into and gives me other ideas.

Once you get past the flying saucerish thing (first on this video) you can see an ekranoplan, the “Caspian Sea Monster.”
