Or, more properly, “there”–in a hotel room in NYC before another busy day. New York Comic Con is over (yesterday last day) , and today is meeting with Agent plus dinner with friend, plus the pre-travel-home chores (send out laundry and too many others). Tomorrow is meeting with Editor & Staff at Publisher. Both meetings involve lunch.
Behind me now are three operas, a wedding, a signing at NYCC, another visit to NYCC yesterday to a)( visit a friend’s booth in Artists’ Alley and buy some of her cool stuff (I love Carol’s web comic SPQR Blues) and b) attend a couple of panels and c) meet up with two former Editors and Publicity Director for dinner. Also a lot of walking and subway riding and too little actual sleep. NYCC was fun despite the crowds and some initial glitches (more about some of that, later, maybe)–the book signing went very well–we gave away all the books brought for me to sign & give away, and I also signed stock at the Barnes & Noble booth (which I’d managed to miss on Friday) on Sunday. (Saturday was my friend’s daughter’s wedding, and yes, it took up my whole day.)
Some decisions have been made about what will and won’t be in Book V. Some discussion with agent about what comes next, though more such discussion will take place today. Some additional insight into publishing has been achieved, though never quite enough to feel that I can foresee any oncoming trains on the track I’m on.
I will be on trains and thus out of reliable wireless contact for three days starting Wednesday as I wend my way home. I may or may not have time to get back online later today or tomorrow. I should’ve synched the address book of the home computer to this netbook before I left, but with all the trouble I was having that didn’t happen. Sigh. Anyway–apologies for the long silence heretofore, and the next long silence to come.

Great to hear you’ve enjoyed NY – hope discussions with Agent and Editor go well. There’s so many more stories waiting to be told… and so many universes to explore. Have to thank you for mentioning the Liaden universe books a couple of months ago – have now devoured them while waiting for Limits.

Sounds like a very busy trip.
From what I read about leaving things out of book V…. Do you plan a book VI or something more in the eight kingdoms, with another set of characters or a certain paladin coming back with a vengeance?
I can’t but ask (and I know the answer is probably spoilerish) but does the scene at the end of Liar’s oath (you know, Paks and Kieri (I think it is Kieri at least) visiting Luap’s colony and the creation of the first paladins of Gird) appear in Book IV or V ? From the point of view of Paks and Kieri?

look at the publisher’s synopsis of IV: Elizabeth has created a whole new context – a problem to which they may be part of someone’s solution – for Luap’s followers to be awoken to (whichever book the scene will come in)

That is so true…the problem isn’t just in getting them “somewhere” but in what they might or might not do when there. OH, and what they really did in the past.

Book V is the end of this story arc. That does not mean ‘no more story arcs.’ That does not mean there will be more story arcs. As Robin McKinley puts it, the Story Committee decides (though I don’t have a committee, just the very strong-minded Story Boss.)
Anything more would indeed be a humongous spoiler and I won’t reveal.

Elizabeth: I wish you a nice long, uneventful train ride, so you can rest. And the plot daimon can do its job without distractions.
If I were you, the what’s next question would be a lump in my stomach. Its always there, but I never see into the dark beyond the setting sun of this project. Then the sun rises again, eventually.

Hasn’t Paksworld already changed in ways no one would have predicted? Dorrin the mage? The royal bones of Lyonya speaking about betrayal? I never expected what has happened,and we have more surprises coming I think.
