NewBook is growing nicely, at 210 pages, moving right along every time I sit down to it,\u00a0 so I think we need a contest to end this year and start the next.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
You know there are lifeboats in it.\u00a0\u00a0 And that people usually like to name whatever boats are holding them up out of the wet.\u00a0\u00a0 So, let’s have a lifeboat naming contest.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Four lifeboats need names.\u00a0\u00a0 They are inflatables with canopies; they do not have rudders or motors, but do have oars.\u00a0\u00a0 The people in them include those who have sailed or used motorboats (on lakes, rivers, inshore and offshore waters–experience variable from one individual to another) and those who have never been on water–and none of them have cold-open-ocean experience.\u00a0 So…what will they name the lifeboats?<\/p>\n
As usual, entries will be assigned a number and a random drawing will determine the winners.\u00a0 You may enter four times (one name for one boat–number your lifeboat choice.)\u00a0 The prize?\u00a0 Winners’ lifeboat names will be in the book.\u00a0\u00a0 So there might be four different winners, one for LB-1, one for LB-2, etc.\u00a0 or there might be fewer winners.\u00a0 It’s all up to the random number generator except for one thing:\u00a0 names I really-really-really hate won’t be included (that would be names I think would be considered obscene or seriously disgusting by most readers including Editor–though I agree real survivors might well name their lifeboat F-word-something or some racial\/gender\/ etc insult)\u00a0 and those individuals will be notified and offered a chance to enter another name.<\/p>\n
Post your suggestions, one lifeboat name (designated as #1, #2, #3, #4.)\u00a0 That way I can make four lists, each to be randomized separately.<\/p>\n
