Slowdowns &#038; Snippet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lively comment conversations distract the author into joining in, and thus take time that might (no promises) otherwise lead to more blog posts.\u00a0\u00a0 Naughty author!\u00a0\u00a0 But this week the weather was also involved.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s see now.\u00a0 It&#8217;s certainly time for another snippet from <em>Crown of Renewal<\/em>, as we&#8217;re within 3 months of its pub date.\u00a0\u00a0 Paksworld itself continues to push people onstage in my head and insist that we&#8217;re not yet done here (and refuses to allow other characters to come fully alive, which will disappoint my space opera readers.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know if a novel will come out of it&#8211;the short stuff continues to come in spurts, like this knitter v. knitter v. vindictive old&#8230;no, that&#8217;s spoilerish.\u00a0\u00a0 Anyway, a snippet is below the break.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Where:\u00a0 Northern stronghold<\/p>\n<p>Who: Arcolin and young\u00a0 Jamis<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>On the ride to Duke&#8217;s West, Arcolin told Jamis what to expect in the ceremony.\u00a0 &#8220;You won&#8217;t need court clothes, at your age, but your best clothes, certainly.\u00a0 Your mother will probably insist on a lace collar&#8211;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lace is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">itchy<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes, but this is at the king&#8217;s court, where everyone wears lace and itchy clothes.\u00a0 It helps us remember we&#8217;re in a special place, very formal.\u00a0 I will wear lace too, and so will your mother.&#8221;\u00a0 Jamis nodded.\u00a0 &#8220;Now,&#8221;
