{"id":2002,"date":"2013-11-22T16:00:07","date_gmt":"2013-11-22T22:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/?p=2002"},"modified":"2013-11-22T16:00:07","modified_gmt":"2013-11-22T22:00:07","slug":"no-rest-for-the-weary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/?p=2002","title":{"rendered":"No Rest for the Weary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been informed that I&#8217;m not posting often enough.\u00a0\u00a0 I thought (hoped) that posting to comments, answering questions there, etc., would keep the natives from expressing restlessness, but that didn&#8217;t work.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 So&#8230;well&#8230;I can&#8217;t say anything more about the Other Story that&#8217;s with an editor.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I can&#8217;t say anything about the story for which I haven&#8217;t decided on a market.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t say anything about the ideas churning in my mind for another CHICKS anthology.\u00a0 So what <em>can<\/em> I say? <!--more-->Page proofs landed on me yesterday and must be checked and returned in good time.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I expect 16 or more at the table for Thanksgiving dinner and between now and the call to the table, I will be chopping, dicing, slicing and packaging for the fridge any prep work I can do ahead.\u00a0\u00a0 Friends are providing (variously) pecan pie, homemade cranberry sauce,\u00a0 apple\/sweet potato casserole,\u00a0 green bean casserole,\u00a0 some of the tableware, cheese &amp; crackers, and rolls.\u00a0\u00a0 I am providing turkey, ham, dressing, gravy, creamed spinach and mushroom casserole,\u00a0 corn &amp; peppers casserole, pumpkin pie, gingerbread-apple-walnut loaf,\u00a0 salad,\u00a0 whipped cream to top the pies and cake,\u00a0 extras like carrot and celery sticks, olives, pickles, fresh fruit for centerpieces and alternate desserts.\u00a0 Also the table, tablecloth, napkins, chairs, plates, glasses, serving dishes and platters, and most of the flatware.<\/p>\n<p>Prep for this started November 2, and continues at an accelerating pace.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I should have gotten to the silver polishing before I did.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The grocery shopping isn&#8217;t complete (I will buy the mushrooms, celery, and fruit on Monday.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As always, the exact number is uncertain because two couples come from 200 miles away, and most of the rest from about 50.\u00a0 Weather makes a difference.\u00a0\u00a0 Sometimes people get sick the day before.\u00a0 Etc.<\/p>\n<p>November 1 was the annual Requiem Mass with a lot of music to learn and sing.\u00a0 This Sunday is a fiendishly difficult piece, &#8220;The Visions of St. John&#8221;
