I hear a mutter from overhead.)\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s about feet.\u00a0 Unhappy feet make for unhappy cranky people.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ve now been to three conventions wearing only handknit socks.\u00a0\u00a0 For A-Kon I had only three pair.\u00a0\u00a0 For ArmadilloCon I had four pair.\u00a0 For WorldCon I had five pair.\u00a0\u00a0 It made a huge difference.\u00a0 Even though my feet swelled badly on a couple of days (hard floors, lots of standing, etc.)\u00a0 the socks didn&#8217;t dig in and make things worse.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;m hoping to get the sixth pair finished by NYCC, as that will be a longer trip, with fewer opportunities to wash &amp; dry wool socks.\u00a0 (These are not machine-washable wool socks.)<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Here are the A-Kon socks,\u00a0 in order of seniority, left (oldest) to right:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/three-prs-socks406.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1677\" title=\"three-prs-socks406\" src=\"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/three-prs-socks406.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/three-prs-socks406.jpg 350w, http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/three-prs-socks406-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are the WorldCon socks, in order of seniority, R to L (same three pairs of course at the other end of the row.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/5-pair-round161.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1678\" title=\"5-pair-round161\" src=\"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/5-pair-round161.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/5-pair-round161.jpg 350w, http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/5-pair-round161-300x182.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The short red ones (that I have on today)\u00a0 were the first, and are the biggest in width.\u00a0 Too big, but boy are they comfy anyway.\u00a0\u00a0 The teal blue (second pair) are a little too big.\u00a0 The greens are the first with a reinforced heel (eye of partridge); the second reds are the best fit so far in the foot, though just a little long in the toe.\u00a0 The light\/medium blue were difficult but I did manage a different heel reinforcing stitch and they fit pretty well.<\/p>\n<p>Next are the more emerald green (past the gussets and onto the foot), and the first turquoise (only on the ribbing so far.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the future: purple, more red (I really like red socks!),\u00a0 a true royal blue,\u00a0 another turquoise, another emerald green, a rich brown, a burgundy-ish.<\/p>\n<p>Other maintenance chores to sustain the writer&#8230;.exercise, food, music.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s this maintenance thing with older bodies.\u00a0\u00a0 And one thing my mother told me years ago that&#8217;s both true and useful (only one?
