{"id":1470,"date":"2012-02-05T20:03:56","date_gmt":"2012-02-06T02:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/?p=1470"},"modified":"2012-02-05T20:03:56","modified_gmt":"2012-02-06T02:03:56","slug":"how-things-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/?p=1470","title":{"rendered":"How Things Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the book I&#8217;m working on,\u00a0 the Company is once more camped near Ifoss, as in <em>Sheepfarmer&#8217;s Daughter<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 In that book, the Company camped on the west side of town.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Now they&#8217;re camping on the east side.\u00a0 Moreover, the town&#8217;s changed some (as most towns did, during and after Siniava&#8217;s War.\u00a0\u00a0 Paks at that point didn&#8217;t care whether the town had a grange;\u00a0 it does&#8230;on the west side.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ifoss is still the smallest of the Foss Council cities, but its wall is no longer complete; expansion after Siniava&#8217;s War (the war to end wars, in the locals&#8217; minds) led them to breach the wall to the northwest, while retaining most of the rest.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Several inns are mentioned in Sheepfarmer&#8217;s Daughter, and without my notebooks it didn&#8217;t occur to me to reuse any of the same names.\u00a0 Until now, when&#8211;looking for something else&#8211;I ran across them.\u00a0 So\u00a0 there&#8217;s another bit of revision to be done.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Due to mmph-mumble in Echoes and this book, I&#8217;ve been reviewing the oldest map of Aarenis I have, printed in <em>Sheepfarmer&#8217;s\u00a0 Daughter<\/em> (it was part of the original master map, now lost.\u00a0 Unless of course I find it after finishing all of Paladin&#8217;s Legacy.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Certain names not actually used (I don&#8217;t think) in that book&#8211;though perhaps mentioned&#8211;have things happening there in the new book.<\/p>\n<p>What I can&#8217;t find (so\u00a0 far) in <em>Sheepfarmer&#8217;s Daughter<\/em> is the conversation in which someone (Stammel?\u00a0 Someone else?) mentions in Paks&#8217;s hearing the relationship between Andressat and Cilwan.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;m suddenly worried that I&#8217;ve remembered it wrong, and had been zipping through the book (my old, battered mmpb copy) trying to find it.\u00a0\u00a0 So if anyone has the time and inclination in the next day or so, it would be helpful to have a reference for that.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, I have everything on my agent&#8217;s list done (I hope!!) but part of C-22 and all of C-28.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 C-22 is\u00a0 mostly done, C-24 is done (barring a correction that might come from someone locating that passage), and C-28 I&#8217;m staring at with perplexity all over my face.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Because C-28&#8217;s a very VERY important chapter in which very important things happen, and I thought I&#8217;d done it well.\u00a0 (Oh&#8211;by the way&#8211;these won&#8217;t be the chapter numbers you see next year when this book comes out, because of the new chapter that&#8217;s been inserted much earlier and some other adjustments.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But until all the adjustments are done, I&#8217;m using the old chapter numbers so I can use the notes I made when my agent called.)<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, C-28 is going to be a difficult one to redo.\u00a0\u00a0 I have to figure out why it didn&#8217;t work for my agent when it worked so well for me, and then figure out how to make it work for both of us and all the rest of you, too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the book I&#8217;m working on,\u00a0 the Company is once more camped near Ifoss, as in Sheepfarmer&#8217;s Daughter.\u00a0\u00a0 In that book, the Company camped on the west side of town.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Now they&#8217;re camping on the east side.\u00a0 Moreover, the town&#8217;s changed some (as most towns did, during and after Siniava&#8217;s War.\u00a0\u00a0 Paks at that point [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[29,57,5],"tags":[58,51,107],"class_list":["post-1470","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-background","category-reader-help","category-the-writing-life","tag-reader-help-wanted","tag-revision","tag-the-writing-life"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1470"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1470"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1470\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1471,"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1470\/revisions\/1471"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1470"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1470"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.paksworld.com\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1470"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
