Most of you may have seen the cover art elsewhere, but it’s now time to show it off here for anyone who might wander through:<\/p>\n

And now for the snippet.\u00a0 Location:\u00a0\u00a0 North Marches.\u00a0\u00a0 POV: Arcolin\u00a0 Time:\u00a0 shortly before Midwinter, the year that Pargun attacked Lyonya.<\/p>\n

Arcolin has ridden over to the east side of his domain to check on troops quartered near the Pargunese border–Cracolnya’s cohort– in case of invasion.<\/p>\n

“Anything new from the Pargunese?”<\/p>\n

“Not directly,” Cracolnya said.\u00a0 “What I do have to report, though, is startling enough.\u00a0 One of my patrols ran into a party of gnomes.”<\/p>\n

“Gnomes!\u00a0 There aren’t any gnome princedoms up here.\u00a0 They’re all down south, along the flanks of the Dwarfmounts.”<\/p>\n

“That’s what I thought, too,” Cracolnya said.\u00a0\u00a0 “But it’s not what the gnomes think.\u00a0 Apparently this was once theirs.\u00a0 The hills of northern Pargun and some of the hills Kieri thought were his.”<\/p>\n

“I haven’t seen a gnome north of V\u00e9rella in my whole career,” Arcolin said.\u00a0 “And those were traders.”<\/p>\n

These gnomes are going to complicate Arcolin’s life.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On the other hand, Arcolin is going to complicate gnomish Law, despite his best efforts to keep things simple.\u00a0\u00a0 The Elder Being who is an agent of transformation is amused, once he gets over being angry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
