Who:\u00a0\u00a0 POV is Daryan Serrostin (Dorrin’s squire), his father Duke Serrostin,\u00a0 and Gwennothlin Marrakai<\/p>\n
1)\u00a0 Duke Serrostin is trying to persuade his son to leave Dorrin’s service and come home with him.<\/p>\n
“It’s…not natural,” his father said.\u00a0 “It has bark<\/em>.”\u00a0 His look at Daryan’s hand mixed fear and loathing.<\/p>\n “It won’t have, when it’s grown out,” Daryan said.\u00a0 “The Kuakgan told me.”<\/p>\n “You could have needles<\/span> sprouting from it.”<\/p>\n “No, sir, I won’t.\u00a0 He said so.”\u00a0 Daryan looked at his hand himself.\u00a0 True, his thumb somewhat resembled a twig, and the place where it joined into his hand had a strange bulging rim now, the skin there brown and a little wrinkled.\u00a0 But it was already fatter than it had been the first time he looked at it and best of all, he could move and use it already.<\/p>\n “And your legs.\u00a0 I swear I could see the green under your skin.”<\/p>\n “I<\/em> can’t, sir,” Daryan said.\u00a0 It was not quite true.\u00a0 Just on the side of his ankle, where the skin was thinnest and the heelstring closest to the surface, he thought he could see one thin green stripe, like a thread.\u00a0 But maybe it was just a vein.\u00a0 It was a bluish green.<\/p>\n “Green blood!” his father said. “And our family has been Girdish for generations!”<\/p>\n 2)\u00a0 Gwennothlin talks to Daryan after his father storms off to talk to Dorrin.<\/p>\n Gwenno Marrakai leaned on the doorpost.\u00a0 “Your father is furious,” she said.<\/p>\n “He wants me to go home.\u00a0 I won’t.”<\/p>\n Her eyebrows went up.\u00a0 “Dar–you’re not of age–”<\/p>\n “Almost.\u00a0 Right after the Spring Evener.”<\/p>\n …………………………<\/p>\n Something has happened,\u00a0 and Daryan is “contaminated” with “green blood. ” \u00a0\u00a0 There’s a religious sense to this, as well as biological…the Kuakkgani are uncanny, mysterious folk and some Girdish feel they just aren’t…well…right.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Today’s snippet of Echoes is from a sidestory that wasn’t working in the book itself–well, part of it is, but the specific conversations aren’t there.\u00a0 So this is something you’ll know when you read the book\u00a0 that others won’t.
