The new book’s total is now 91,285 words.\u00a0 Not sure of yesterday’s total because I had lost the 3×5 card with the chapter totals and–having worked in multiple chapters–could not be sure what was done which day.\u00a0 Definitely time to get formal with the count again.\u00a0 Today’s a half-day work day (I\u00a0need a nap this afternoon because I must sing two services tomorrow, each including 3 Mozart anthems, a real workout)\u00a0 so must get at the work and see what comes of it.<\/p>\n

On the bright side, adding in Dorrin’s new squires is a help.\u00a0\u00a0 Their personalities are filling up, except for Dar’s.\u00a0 His older brother Roly is rock-solid now, but Dar (I couldn’t get Roly for this mission) is less formed and is just being “nice.”\u00a0\u00a0 He’s shy of Dorrin, but he needs to quit being shy of me<\/em>.\u00a0 I’m his writer. \u00a0He needs to open up to me and let me make use of his whole self.\u00a0\u00a0 He’s insisting he has no secrets and is just a plain, ordinary, sensible, good guy.\u00a0 No teenage boy is that bland!\u00a0\u00a0 He thinks the other two are dramatic enough and he should just be the plain unsalted porridge.\u00a0 \u00a0It’s true that Gwenno and Beclan are inherently more dramatic, but nobody gets to lack salt and savor.\u00a0 I\u00a0will have to keep poking Dar until he reacts.<\/p>\n

On the less helpful side,\u00a0 Kieri’s future father-in-law is not as forthcoming as I\u00a0hoped in revealing information that is plot-critical.\u00a0 I\u00a0can’t tell if he really\u00a0 doesn’t know, or he’s just being a control freak about sharing data.\u00a0 Or do I have it all wrong and this isn’t his future father-in-law after all? \u00a0 At any rate, he’s annoyingly superior with his writer, and he, too, will have to learn that if he wants to stay in the book, he has to serve a plot-critical function.\u00a0 I\u00a0don’t need him for decoration.<\/span><\/p>\n
