Rotten no-good cold or no rotten no-good cold, I still should finish (or nearly finish) the main draft of the new book by Oct 1, and within a week of that should have it roughly in order. (It’s not now, because of the various medical interruptions–to keep going, I wrote in whatever part of the story cooperated that day, so it’s added branches to its trunk fairly randomly. )
So: I will need some alpha readers who are strong on the structural side (the nit-picking comes later.) The rough sort I’ll do to get this out to people may not be accurate. Given my aging memory, I can’t recall who, exactly, was on the last couple of alpha-reader lists (which I’ve misplaced, you see…DUH) so if you want to trudge through 160,000 (roughly) words of very unfinished manuscript setting a trail for revision to follow, contact me by email. There will be the usual “makes the publisher happy” agreements not to reveal anything prematurely to deal with.

No problem. And to all of you who’ve emailed–Book IV is eating my brain so please be patient in waiting for a reply. I’ve got to write this thing while it’s showing so much drive. These spurts don’t last forever.

will having read book 3 be a good thing for being a candidate to being an alpha reader? I would assume yes, but I don’t know how mandatory it would be. I’m more of the nit pic variety so while I would like to be an alpha reader, it would probably be better if I was a beta reader. 🙂

I would love to be an alpha reader. I’m an avid reader and fan of the Paks books. I’m on my second copy of The Deed of Paksenarrion and am currently enjoying The Kings of the North. Super excited to find out what happens, before or after publish. Good luck!

I would love to be an advanced reader for any of your wonderful books. As my children and husband can atest, I read constantly and enjoy your books. Thanks for your wonderful writing that makes me escape into such a real world full of characters so real I dream about them.

Elizabeth, I would love to be an Alpha Reader. I don’t have your world as memorized as some of your followers, but I love the rhythm of your writing and have read most of your published books.

Delays, delays, there are always delays…
First the miserable cold, then some publisher requests that kept me from getting the ms. sequenced, then the anniversary of my mother’s death, which always knocks my brain off its balance for a few days. Sorry, folks. You WILL get your chance at the new monster.

I’d love to be an alpha reader to really see the process. Alas, I have neither the time nor the experience to do it. (Rarely can I articulate what the problems are. I can read someone else’s review — and go — “that’s it, that’s what was wrong.”) Perhaps some day after learning more I can volunteer.

I would relish the opportunity to be an Alpha Reader. I have read almost all of your work. Admitedly, I may have missed a few short stories. I enjoy it all, the fantasy, sci-phi and The Speed of Dark. Your ability to transport the reader into the story has always amazed me. As a Senior NCO, I always read with a smile when I go back and revisit Paks “basic training”, the military life in your worlds and my favorite battle scenes. Thanks for considering my request, Ma’am.
